I visited Dublin last month; I'd never been there. I wandered into this lovely pub on Capel St., which became my regular haunt for the next 8 nights. There were these 3 big fellows--if you have a vision of Ford F-150s with beards & beers, you've got the picture--being loud & goofy at the bar. Then this older bloke stands up next to the fireplace & sings, "Walking all the day near tall towers where falcons build their nests..." The whole bar shuts up. The bartenders don't accept orders & people tiptoe in from the next room to listen better. In no time at all, we're joining him on the chorus: "I stood by your Atlantic sea, and I sang a song for Ireland." Halfway through, those 3 young lads sitting at the bar were all crying like babies to the point where they couldn't sing along. And that, my friends, is the power of Irish music.

Had the biggest fight with my partner, this song has saved my life and then when I played it the other morning, he said it's a stupid song. Nearly led to a break-up after 2years and also relapsing in sucidal thoughts. Thought I won't ever listen to this song again, but tbh, it is now even more relevant.

I am not Irish but have been living in Ireland for a while now. Being an Indian, I can truly relate to the emotions behind every word of this song.I pity the northern irish, a broken people who still find pride in showing loyalty to the greatest genocidal regime in the history of mankind. The Republic has made great strides while the north continues to decline. A people are nothing without their language, their identity and their culture.
